For businesses selling into the EU

The European Accessibility Act is in force. Is your site?

Since 28 June 2025, the EU’s European Accessibility Act applies to e-commerce, banking, transport, e-books and the websites and apps that deliver in-scope services — and it can reach you even if your business isn’t in Europe, as long as you sell to EU consumers. The technical bar is WCAG 2.1 Level AA via EN 301 549. wcagcheckr audits against it and generates the statement and crosswalk regulators expect.

The EAA isn’t coming — it applies now. If you sell to consumers in the EU, the question isn’t whether it covers you, it’s whether you can show conformance and produce the accessibility statement the regulation requires.

The good news: the standard it points to (WCAG 2.1 Level AA) is the same bar that matters for US ADA exposure — fix once, cover both.

What the EAA actually requires, and when

The European Accessibility Act — Directive (EU) 2019/882 — was adopted in 2019 and applies to in-scope products and services provided from 28 June 2025. It covers consumer electronics, e-commerce, banking, transport ticketing, e-books, and the websites and mobile apps through which those services are delivered, requiring them to meet accessibility requirements. The harmonised technical standard is EN 301 549, which incorporates WCAG 2.1 Level AA.

One standard, two jurisdictions

Because the EAA’s technical bar (WCAG 2.1 Level AA, via EN 301 549) is the same one US ADA litigation turns on, a single audit and a single set of fixes cover both your EU obligation and your US exposure. The conformance crosswalk maps your result across every framework so you can prove it in either.

The EAA applies now. Audit against it free — and generate the statement.
